Chinese Puzzle Ball

This ball is made from 'Hong Kong Ivory', which is a mixture of bone and resin.  The ball has eight separate layers, which can be moved individually! 
The wooden pedestal stand is included.
The outer sphere is intricately carved with typical Chinese dragons. 
The puzzle is ~ how is it done?
