Henan Zun

A late 1800s solid Henan Jade Zun. Such an ornate vessel would have been used on ceremonial occasions for drinking wine.  The handle is in the form of a stylised dragon.  Belief in the dragon can be traced back to primitive society, when the dragon and other totems were adopted by certain tribes as their symbol and guardian god.   A phoenix head is carved beneath the lip.

Please note carefully a minute chip in the rim of the vessel (left hand side),  and a chip in the base, at the front.

The Zun measures approxiately 14.5 by 12.5 by 4.8cm, and weighs 0.94kg.                                                £70
